The role of the windshield is a lot more complex than simply allowing a view of the road ahead. It is considered a structural part of the vehicle as it contributes to the strength of the roof and A-pillars. The windshield helps to manage collision energy and has become an integral part of several advanced safety systems.
It is commonly asked, "What is required when replacing a windshield?" With this question in mind, we will be presenting a series of articles that highlight some of the requirements from the various OEMs. As always, it is important to read through each vehicle-specific procedure to ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
Let’s see what Maserati has to say for the 2016-2019 model years.
- Maserati identifies specific activator, primer, and adhesive to be used.

- Use a suitable hook type or flat type blade on a pneumatic windshield removal tool.
- Some areas may be inaccessible for the tool and will need to be cut by hand.
- The windshield must be fitted in the car body within 5 minutes from the sealant application (or the time specified on the sealant package).
- Do not press on the windshield sides at the same time as this may break it.
- Leave the windows lowered to avoid exerting too much pressure on the windshield while closing the doors.
As a special caution, vehicles equipped with a forward-facing camera will need to have the camera calibrated. Detailed static aiming procedures are provided in the vehicle-specific service manual under: Lane Assist Camera Module Adjustments.
