As part of the I-CAR Repairability Technical Support (RTS) OEM linking pin activity, we are helping to connect the collision repair industry to the vehicle makers. Recently, we had a technical inquiry on a 2012 Ford F-150 outer box side replacement. Clarification was requested whether adhesives other than what is specified in Workshop manual can be used.
For example, 2015-2020 Ford F-150 Workshop manuals provide the following options: Metal Bonding Adhesive TA-1, TA-1-B, 3M 08115, and LORD Fusor 108B.
However, the 2012 Ford F-150 outer box side replacement procedure only specifies the use of structural TA-1 adhesive.
Per our contact at Ford: "TA-1 or 3M 08115 can be used."
To further clarify, either of these adhesives can be applied when performing the outer box side replacement procedure on a pre-2015 Ford F-150.
